After devising a way to accurately sight the parabolic reflector I’m using in my ultrasonic RFI source locator, I went back out to the suspect pole today. From three different vantage points, the system zeroed in on the device highlighted in the photos seen below. The device appears to be a lightning arrester/surge diverter. I’m very pleased that from multiple viewpoints my ultrasonic detector is pointing consistently to the same spot. From approximately 40 feet, pointing the parabolic reflector even a couple of inches away from this arrester dropped the meter on the ultrasonic detector to zero. The consistency between viewing angles tells me I’m on the money with the sighting. I love it when a project works as anticipated — in this case, even better than anticipated.
