STM32_DVM to Yaesu Fusion DR-1X Interface Instructions and Wiring Diagram

If you are interested in hooking up one of Scott Zimmerman’s incredible STM32_DVM multi-digital mode controllers to a Yaesu Fusion DR-1 or DR-1X repeater, then I have produced a webpage/article and information which was written for you; moreover, if you

want to create an interface that is sure to work well and adds several other benefits, then the article and information is most definitely for you!

What is different about my STM32_DVM interface design and DR-1X modification?

  • It provides interfacing options and flexibility which are not found in many other interface designs (facilitates easier interfacing of other controllers and devices without ever having to remove the cover of the repeater.)
  • By disconnecting a couple of connectors, the repeater is reverted back to functioning just like nothing had ever been done to it (easy “factory revert,” so to speak.)
  • This method eliminates the problem many DR-1 and DR-1X owners have encountered with inability to get sufficient modulation out of the transmit radio in the repeater when using external controllers and devices.
  • Prevents the often reported problem of the DR-1 and DR-1X repeaters “locking up in transmit” when a digital signal is received by the repeater.

Click on this link to go to the page with in-depth details on modifying the Fusion DR-1X and interfacing the STM32_DVM. In the first part of the article you will be taken to Doug Crompton’s page for the first step of the project (nice job, Doug!) No need to duplicate all of that step here.

Then, you will continue on with my instructions and finish building the cabling you need to help you get the most out of Scott Zimmerman’s awesomely designed and built STM32_DVM board, which (in this application) converts the DR-1 or DR-1X from being a repeater capable of analog or C4FM digital operation to a repeater which can operate in DMR, D-Star, C4FM, P25, or NXDN digital modes — or even a combination of those!
